Plaintiff was a 55 year old professional who went in for arthroscopic knee surgery. The doctor did not properly diagnosis her history of blood clots and failed to prescribe her drugs before surgery to prevent a blood clot. After surgery, plaintiff made several calls to both her family doctor and knee surgeon (who where both partners in the same group). Neither doctor had the plaintiff in for an ultra sound to diagnosis the blood clot. According to the autopsy, the plaintiff died from a pulmonary embolism, caused by a deep vein thromboembolism (DVT) contributed to by the recent arthroscopic surgery. In addition to hiring an expert orthopedic surgeon, our firm employed an economist to determine the monetary damages suffered by the loss. The economist calculated the economic loss at $1,771,338.00. Plaintiff also claimed as damaged the surgery and funeral expenses.
